BADUGU BAREy -Badugu Script born in 1968 and reaching faster now; Badugu LakshaNa (grammar) &
Maathartha(dictionary) are enriching Badugu, the language of Badugas - a Prilmitive native tribe of Nigiris from more
than 3000 years back.
The Badugu bare’ was born/developed 50 Years ago, by Mr. Yogesh Raj, at Mel Hosahatty,in Neelagiri (Nilgiris). Posted below is the part of a speech by Yogesh Raj, in a function, which explains the step by step development of Badugu language , Grammar, other literary works and other
research works including that on 'the Origin of Badugas' :--
"  I was having an urge for developing this (Badugu Script), as i understood that one can learn easily, atleast at the initial stages, only when he/she learns through their mother tongue.  Also the rich oral lterature in Badugu and old Badugu words can be preserved only through script and was
thinking over it for months together ( i used to write stories, direct and conduct dramas ; also used to draw that period). i was thinking and scratching in the note book; i thought over and followed the sound patten.
Have you noted the flow path of air when we say 'a', the first sound that comes out when we open our mouth ?
(see the picture posted before the Learn Badugu lesson-1, in the time line-Yogesh Raj Kadasoley, in FB.). Then  developed other letters in the course of time (the letters were not developed in a day or two); after long research and  avoiding any clash between any letters and  avoiding  any  confusion when writing with speed and considering the
phsycology and the writing ability and pattern of the young children the script was developed further and  experimented, in 1968 Itself, by teaching younger students and conducting tests; all these happened at Hosahatty-
some names i remember: Markanda @kunda, Bheema, Krishnamoorthi, cousin brohter of Guna Magesa (VC  at Institute of Advanced Research, Gandhinagar.,Gujarath), etc., (one interesting incident: one student (4th std,) asked me why there are two 'in's in tamil and why they call one 'in' as 'indh' when that 'in' comes in between a word and why this confusion; see the young student's inqisitiveness and brilliance!!! i told that  we  should forget about anyothers, when studying Badugu; Badugu script has appropriate letters for the sounds of Badugu language.)
The beauty is they  studied in 3 hours and when dictated some words(which i did not taught) they wrote correctly.!!!!!. Then in some more course of time the script was corrected for shortcomings (by such, above said experiments only) and shape  given with writing flexibility-  this took some more time, say 6more months.
But at that time the scripts for the words 'QWA' and 'GWA' were not there. It was introduced in 1970 only, after the research in all the 'Sabdha' (sound) of Badugu words, by which time i had collected and arranged some Badugu words ( say around 1000 words). The Badugu Harakke’(Badugu Anthem) was written in 1971. Phamplets were distributed at YBA;the then manager preserved them
In ‘80s, the 1 st std, book was prepared and initially distributed at Gudalur with the encouragement of Gudalur Baduga Assn. In 1991 this script appeared in the Tamil news paper, Dinathandi, by one of its reporter/friend from Nandhatty-gudalur.  Seeing this 15 gentlemen(14
from Kotagiri area and 1 tamilian from Avinahi) studied it through  correspondence.  we used to write in inland letters and only in Badugu script!! (the name in the address was also
written in Badugu apart from Inglish); they are being preserved still now (please note that at that time there was no  TV and mobiles !!!). The materials were also given to and distributed at functions of associations of Madras, Coimbatore and Hyderabad, etc,
I worked for 5 years for collecting old and rare Badugu words from very old elders- some words like 'banda', 'mammukoosu', 'sisukoosu', 'burude', etc.,....were collected from Maelseeme.
(Also 25yrs back my father established a school there and my brother,Ganesh was teaching there and i also used to go on holidays and taught).
Then around 7000 words collected & arranged in alphabetical order. Then started writilng Maaththartha (dictionary);  After writng about 50pages i felt the immediate need for Lakshana (Grammar) and worked for 3 and 1/2 years; thus  wrote two parts of GRAMMAR (completed in 2010) .
Many were taught Badugu script, through post. After this the script was posted in the
Face Book, in 2012, thanks to the efforts taken by BWC (convener: Singan Sathu who was also the preseident of Erode Baduga Assn). Thousands around the world are following/studying through internet. Then many youngsters  who studied it joined and we under the banner of BLPG started teaching the Badugu bare at villages in weekends (so far around 50 villages were covered), apart from social services.  Also the 'Learn Badugu'  Lessons have been posted in the FB groups at
regular intervals. Now Maththartha(dictionary) work is continuing; the youngsters  have
to help in teaching etc, and have to carry forward the mission.
In April, 2014, we conducted free 3day camp / Badugu workshop at Reach Matriculation
school, Coonoor, with the help of Prakasam malla gowder; around forty students participated. Also conducted classes at cities like Chennai (thanks to Badagar Welfare Association, Chennai), Coimbatore and at Gudalur-(thanks to Gudalur Badugar nala Sangha which was supporing from 1980s itself).
Many are studying on their own and somehave been teaching among friends and their 'hatties'/villages (like Senthil Kerappadu, Attuboil Raja, Chozadi Aneesh , Ajith
and Nijanth). Such classes will be continued. Then I came out of Indian Bank on VRS, for the purpose of invoving vigorously in this  work , research  and also for services under BLPG and BMS.             Now a days the Badugu script is spreading fast. I Also visited UAE,  under the invitation of Dubai Baduga Assn, and taught there in Dec. 2014 . I believe all these developments are
because of the BLESSINGS OF HIRODAYYA and ALMIGHTY. I am presenting some of the works(including the  Lakshana-grammar- part 1), to this Trust, for preservation and for all to go through and study. These were also given to the ' Nilgiris documentation centre' and the core members of BMS (Baduga Mahajana Sangha)
YOU SHOULD STUDY THE BADUGU SCRIPT, PRACTICE IT AND START USING & USING IT.  I request every one to study and contribute your might for the develpmen of Badugu. Any one can join us in visiting and teaching. my mob-8903471808 or 8838011021; email:
(In 2016 an exclusive FB group-BADUGU BARE(y) and BAASHE.- was started; it is dedicated only for Badugu language and Script. Lessons and Vedio lessons are posted regularly and more than 4000 members are there, Now.)
BADUGU BADHUKKU. Long live Badugu. Ee sandharpa thandha ellaagoo enna oLLiththuna haegeendane’.
Your loving Badugumagu, endhoo ninga gavdhOge’,

Part-2. Origin of Dhakshina-Indians........ (by Bukka Malla)

Part-2. Origin of Dhakshina-Indians...... . . (by Bukka Malla)                        In the earlier article ‘Evidence’   we have seen that Badugas (British people mispronounced as Badagas) existed in Neelagiri,     around 3000 years back.     It was based on the evidences of Cairns and Barrows {Those cairns and barrows belong to 7 th centuary BC (ref- Balakrihnan Nair)},   and the artifactes found   in them & based on the unique sounds and words (some words contain the Unique sounds- f*u, qwa  & gwa ) in Badugu language  and on the interaction with other tribes   (like Kothas, Thodhavas/Thodas, Kurumbas and Mandadan chetties-in Gudalur area) and the information they revealed regarding the Moriyara mane’ (300 BC).                      But their population could not be much and might be around some hundreds (may be more than that of Thodhavs or Kothas). And as it is revealed in the Gazateer and by the Baduga elders of yesteryears,    at least three disasters or famines
